the school
introduction

Madrid Montessori was founded in 2006 with the aim to offer a respectful, nurturing learning environment for children. It started out as a one-room schoolhouse in Chamberí, Madrid, where twelve families shared the same holistic vision of childhood. In 2009, the school moved to calle Henares, in Madrid’s El Viso neighborhood with two Children’s Houses for 3 to 6 year-olds. In the years since, we have continued to steadily grow and add new programs including an Elementary program and our Infant Community. In 2016, the school found its definitive El Viso home, and has moved all of its programs under one roof at calle Genil, 11.

At Madrid Montessori, we view education as a lifelong process and in order to give children a solid foundation we offer especially prepared learning environments that are attractive and suited to a child’s successive developmental stages. These environments are designed to develop the children’s inner resources, sharpen their problem-solving skills and strengthen their sense of self. In this endeavor, the educational philosophy and methodology of Maria Montessori is a most inspiring partner. We see the method as a way to help our children achieve their goals, a means, and yet not an end in and of itself. The program and philosophy nurtures children with respect, responsibility and an appreciation of diversity as daily staples of lived experience. Of course, these values must be fostered at home; however, schools have a crucial role in cultivating respect for individuality and compassion.

Our approach to education seeks to help children to construct themselves as complete human beings, to become self-aware, capable of developing their potential, and live and work in harmony with others. In our rapidly changing world we want to offer them the opportunity to become competent, happy adults who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to society.

accreditation

As an American school in Madrid, Madrid Montessori is recognized by both the educational authorities of the United States of America though an organism called the Middle States Association (MSA) and the Consejería de Educación de la Comunidad de Madrid. In 2012, the US Educational Board MSA, granted us full accreditation. In 2019, MSA granted us full re-accreditation through 2026. This organization supports educational institutions that strive for excellence and are committed to continual self-evaluation and improvement. This recognition ensures that our program meets the high quality standards of many private schools in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US.

Madrid Montessori’s alumni are eligible to transfer to any educational institution, either in Spain or abroad. We work closely with each family to ensure that each child is prepared for the choice that best suits them.
